Urban Meyer didn’t know who Mike Vrabel, his fellow NFL coach and former employee, was

The Manning Cast alternative show Monday Night Football generally produces great football-related stories. This also applies to Urban Meyer’s 13-game tenure as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In Week 12, these two forces met in a massive, somewhat confusing, yet completely believable story from longtime NFL star Mike Vrabel.

Vrabel spent 14 seasons in the league as a linebacker and six as head coach of the Tennessee Titans. He spent another two years as defensive coach for Meyer’s Ohio State Buckeyes. But when the two met in 2021, Meyer took one look at the former All-Pro, NFL Coach of the Year and, most importantly, his former employee and asked, “Do I know you?”

“Yes, I’m the head coach of the Titans,” Vrabel said to Peyton and Eli Manning with a laugh. “And I worked for you for two years.”

For any other head coach, most of whom have extensive knowledge of the game and key players, this would be incredible. But considering Meyer’s countless ways to screw up almost everything related to his NFL tenure, this was pretty normal.

Meyer was bad enough to be fired two-thirds of the way through the season with the Jaguars, a franchise that gave Gus Bradley more than three years at the helm. He was such a disaster that we were able to publish an article here called “Twelve Times We Told You Urban Meyer is the Worst,” but that didn’t take into account some of Meyer’s stupid behavior.

That apparently includes recognizing the head coach of a division rival, who also happened to be one of his assistant coaches less than a decade ago. Urban Meyer, man.
