The Miami Dolphins wanted to end the narrative that cold weather games were their weakness.

Unfortunately, they couldn’t do that after losing to the Green Bay Packers in freezing temperatures on Thanksgiving Day. Ahead of Thursday night’s game, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said he believes it comes down to “mentality.”

“We obviously haven’t gotten anywhere near the temperatures that all these other cold teams are playing in in Miami, where it’s 80 degrees,” he said this week. “Sometimes the number drops to 50, but for long stretches you just can’t get close to the teams that can do it. For me it’s just an attitude, that’s really all.”

However, there seemed to be at least one major difference in the way each team approached their pre-game warm-ups.

In a video shared on social media, several Packers player were seen warming up before the game in t-shirts and shorts. Meanwhile, in the same video, several Miami players were seen warming up on the field in tracksuits and caps.

The Dolphins have now lost their last 12 regular-season or postseason games in which the temperature was 40 degrees or below at kickoff. Thursday was no different, with a temperature of 27 degrees, a wind of 10 mph and a wind chill of 18 degrees.

PACKERS USE COLD HOMEFIELD ELEMENTS TO WIN AGAINST DOLPHINS

It follows the Dolphins’ brutal loss in the wild card round last season. Miami suffered a 26-7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, where it was minus 4 degrees at kickoff and a wind chill of minus -27 degrees.

Miami’s last win when temperatures were below 40 degrees at kickoff was against the Buffalo Bills in 2016.

Tagovailoa, however, refused to give in to that narrative despite Thursday’s loss.

“I would say from my perspective and from our team’s perspective, we’re not going to use any of this as an excuse for why we didn’t get off to the start that we wanted.”
