What is Turducken? Tom Brady gets a taste of the deliciousness that made John Madden famous

Thanksgiving is a holiday for family, food and celebration together. But for NFL fans everywhere, there’s another item that comes back into the public consciousness around this time every year: the Turducken.

Most fans know that the Turducken is somehow connected to legendary broadcaster John Madden and that he brought it out every Thanksgiving when he presented a drumstick to his best player.

And that’s true. Madden introduced the Turducken to a mass audience during a game in New Orleans in 1996. Next, Madden made the turducken the official food of his All-Madden team and a legend was born.

But what exactly is this rare delicacy?

Gordon Ramsay recently found out, and he helped in a video shown during Thursday’s Cowboys-Giants game broadcast on FOX:

What’s in Turducken?

If you think it’s a combination of turkey, duck and chicken, you’re right. The Turducken is…

  • A boneless turkey…
  • Stuffed with a boneless duck…
  • Filled with a boneless chicken.

Madden loved it, and so did Tom Brady when he first tried it. “That’s amazing!” he said.
