What to Watch This Weekend, November 29, 2024: TV Awards Contenders

Beatlemania is once again sweeping the country. Well, he’s definitely on the rise on Disney+ thanks to the intimate new documentary Beatles ’64. Now you may be asking yourself: How many Beatles films and documentaries can one culture produce? How many is to many? At this point it seems impossible to say. We don’t seem to have reached saturation point yet, so apologies if you’re a Rolling Stones fan, but “Beatles ’64” is the awards contender to watch this weekend.

However, if you’re looking for something scripted, candidates on offer include:

  • “The Agency”: The spy genre is having a moment. Oscar nomination Michael Fassbender stars in this latest entry, based on the French series “Le Bureau des Légendes,” which follows an undercover agent (Fassbender) who is abruptly pulled from the field. When he is forced to return to London, he leaves behind a carefully organized life, including a relationship with a married woman (Jodie Turner Smith) and must try to readjust to a “normal life,” or what is considered normal for an undercover spy. Richard Gere And Jeffrey Wright also star. The first two episodes are streaming now on Paramount+ with Showtime and will air linearly on Showtime on Sunday at 9/8c.

  • “Shrinkage”: This week’s heartbreaking episode, “Last Drink,” is a powerful showcase for the series’ two-time Emmy Award-winning co-creator Brett Goldsteinas the audience learns the backstory of his character Louis, a role he never wanted to play. In a season all about forgiveness, the episode is a memorable performance that aims to upend viewers’ perceptions of Louis, and it completely succeeds. The episode is now streaming on Apple TV+.

  • “The madness”: Emmy winner Colman Domingo He seems to be everywhere these days, including as the lead in this new Netflix conspiracy thriller. In the limited series, Domingo portrays a TV expert who is on the verge of landing his dream job, a regular hosting gig, when he accidentally witnesses something he shouldn’t, leaving him on the run from everything from local law enforcement to a white supremacist group. All eight episodes are now streaming on Netflix.
