Where to watch ‘Nutcracker’: Is Ben Stiller’s Christmas comedy streaming?

“Nutcracker” is here.

In the latest version from David Gordon Green, Ben Stiller plays the role of Mike Maxwell, a workaholic who makes a career in real estate. His life is turned upside down by the death of his sister (and her husband) in a car accident. This is the “Halloween” and “The Exorcist: Believer” director’s first non-horror film since 2017, and Stiller’s first leading role since the same year. (In the years since, Stiller has focused on directing projects like Apple TV+’s incredible Severance.)

The film premiered as the opening film at the Toronto International Film Festival. A few days later, it was picked up by Disney for a holiday premiere on the studio’s direct-to-consumer streaming platform, Hulu, as part of a lucrative deal.

But how to watch Stiller’s latest? Read on to find out.

When does “Nutcracker” come out?

“Nutcracker” premieres November 29th on Hulu.

Is “Nutcracker” streaming or in the cinema?

It will only be available on Hulu. Even if you wanted to pack your family into the minivan and drive to your local multiplex to see “Nutcracker” (which honestly sounds delightful), that’s not possible.

Who is in the “Nutcracker” cast?

In addition to Siller, the cast of “The Nutcracker” also includes Linda Cardellini, Tim Heidecker, Toby Huss, “The Righteous Gemstones” star Edi Patterson and the real brothers Homer, Ulysses, Atlas and Arlo Janson.

What is “Nutcracker” about?

Siller’s Mike Maxwell is a man who has no real connections, not even with his sister. So when he’s tasked with going to their rural farm and overseeing the adoption of their four rambunctious cubs, he’s completely out of his element. Cardellini plays a social worker trying to find a home for the boys (at first glance, it seems as if Stiller’s character only has to look after him for a weekend). And Heidecker is a local police officer who is always on the boys’ trail for wrongdoing.

The film has strong ’80s comedy vibes – think “The Bad News Bears” or “The Money Pit” – and there’s undeniable chemistry between the kids, both with each other (of course) and with Stiller. There are certainly plenty of laughs, but there are also quieter, more thoughtful moments. It’s a kind of Christmas movie with as much heart as humor. If you don’t shed a few tears at the end, you might be a robot.
